Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm sues parents, alleging misuse of managed financial accounts

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm filed a civil lawsuit against his parents, Daniel Bohm and Lisa Bohm, on Wednesday in a Philadelphia court. The complaint alleges the parents managed four financial accounts on his behalf, transferred a sizable amount of his funds into them, used the money for their personal expenses and attempted to freeze his access to the accounts.[1][2]

The lawsuit claims one account was opened in 2019, with the parents assigning themselves a 10% stake for administrative purposes while representing Bohm as the true owner of the assets. The accounts were reportedly used for purposes including securities investments and real estate purchases. It further alleges the parents used funds from The Alec Bohm Foundation to cover their own expenses.[1]

Bohm's parents denied the allegations through their attorney, Robert Eckard. Eckard stated they are "deeply saddened" by the claims and intend to defend themselves vigorously. He asserted that Bohm had full access to the accounts at all times and that his parents have covered his expenses using their personal credit cards.[2]

"Mr. and Mrs. Bohm love their son very much and have always acted in his best interests, both personally and professionally, and still do so to this day," Eckard said.[2]

Bohm declined to comment following the Phillies' 2026 season-opening game on Thursday, telling reporters: "I’m not going to address any personal matters right now."[1]

The lawsuit seeks at least $3 million in damages, turnover of control of the accounts to Bohm and appointment of an independent accountant to review all transfers from Bohm's personal accounts to those managed by his parents. The complaint states the parents reside in a recreational vehicle and travel across the country.[1]

Bohm, a third baseman selected by the Phillies with the third overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, has been with the organization since his professional debut.[3]
