Phoenix, Arizona - Right-hander Michael Soroka threw an immaculate inning in the fifth during his Arizona Diamondbacks debut, helping the team to a 9-6 win over the Detroit Tigers at Chase Field on March 30, 2026.
Soroka struck out Javier Báez, Kerry Carpenter and Gleyber Torres on nine straight pitches to complete the frame, blowing a 95 mph fastball past Torres for the final out.
The performance made Soroka the fourth pitcher in Diamondbacks history to record an immaculate inning, defined as three strikeouts on exactly nine pitches. The others were Randy Johnson on June 8, 2001, against the Cincinnati Reds; Byung-Hyun Kim on May 11, 2002, against the San Francisco Giants; and Wade Miley on August 15, 2012, against the Milwaukee Brewers.[1]

"It was pretty special," Soroka said. "I think I’ve talked to you guys about not putting too much stock in results, but I think that's one that's worth celebrating."
The 28-year-old Canadian, born July 4, 1997, was a National League All-Star with the Atlanta Braves in 2019.[2] Injuries, including tears to both Achilles tendons, caused him to miss most of the 2020 season and all of 2021 and 2022.[2] Soroka spent the past two seasons with the Chicago White Sox.[2]
Chase Field has been the Diamondbacks' home since 1998.[3]
