Lalas says any nation but England should win 2026 World Cup
Fox Sports analyst Alexi Lalas stated he does not want England to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He made the comment during a media event in New York City on Wednesday. Lalas said he could accept any other outcome but not an England victory on U.S. soil.
The United States will co-host the tournament with Mexico and Canada. The final is scheduled for MetLife Stadium in July 2026. The event coincides with the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence.
England last won the World Cup in 1966 and has not lifted the trophy since. The United States and England drew 0-0 in their 2022 group-stage match in Qatar. Both teams must advance from their groups to meet again in 2026.
Panelists at the event offered differing predictions. Some favored France to claim the title, citing depth and recent final appearances. Others mentioned England or Mexico as possible winners.
